Sousou & Maher Cissoko featuring. Filip Jers
Join us in a warm show full of love, breathtaking improvisations, sofisticated rhythms along with a brilliant musicianship.
The joy of playing and the geographical differences is what unites these 3 world virtuosos when they gather to share their music and their stories together. Their repertoire consists of own compositions inspired by West African music, jazz & blues.
Maher Cissoko is a kora player from a famous Griot family in Ziguincohr, Senegal. Singer & multi-instrumentalist Sousou Cissoko is born & raised in Höör, Scania and studied the kora in the very same village.
The 2 met there and started a career that has taken them around the world. The duo has toured 31 countries so far and besides that they´ve had collaborations with Timbuktu, Laleh and have performed at the Polar Prize award show.
The 22-stringed kora is their main instrument and they sing in 5 different languages as well. Their show is comprised of groovy rhythms and emotional vocals, both in unison and in harmonies. The kora is fascinating instrument , both sonically and visually and it can be used to play heavy drum beats and rapid arpeggios as well.
Joy of playing might sound like a cliché, but this is the real deal. This duo beams of pure joy, and that adds to the whole experience.
Sveriges television & Sveriges Radio have each recorded their own documentary about Souso & Maher Cissoko. The SVT series ”Folkets musik” was broadcast for the Swedish viewers during autumn 2017.
